We have just completed the refurbishment of a 1970s three-storey maisonette in Hackney.
When we first met No. 11, it was in a very tired state. It had been neglected for years without love. Without working electricity or plumbing, we had to strip it down to the bare bones and begin again from the basics. The project involved extensive reconfiguration including moving both the bathrooms, knocking down several walls, and replacing plumbing and wiring throughout. The excessive use of our favourite birch panelling material has earned it the nickname of ‘Plywood Palace’ amongst friends. Je’s fastidiously designed kitchen is also now officially known as ‘Food Mission Control’.
